i went to art class once a week outside of school for 8 years. looking back, what i learned from 张老师 influenced the way i see the entire world. i'd have more drawings now if i didn't trade them for silly bandz in grade 4 but i don't regret it! that was me learning to share my work and participate in the creative economy... and maybe some people out there still have my art.
when i got to high school, i became less interested in "traditional" art. i opted out of art electives, even though it was considered an easy credit to boost your grades and all of my school friends were taking it. i started working at wonderland, which would sometimes conflict with 张老师's art class, and so eventually i stopped going.
some things i realized:

remember to compare with EVERYTHING! background and objects – make coffee thing undoubtedly darker than tissue box.

the hardest part of sketching is that you are supposed to make the light part light and dark dark, but instead you usually make the light dark and vice versa, so try not to do it. green is darker, purple is darkest.

the first drawing i did in 张老师's art class was of mushroom houses using pastels. i don't have the original, so here's a digital version i recreated on may 19, 2012.
