​ 09/29/2022 to 0385 i talked to 0575. it was pretty chill. we talked about crypto and OCAD and availability and stuff. was this supposed to be an interview? he asked about my work and portfolio. but i was like, my computer is being fixed so i can't share screen, and i just sent a link and talked about a project i worked on.

i didn't finish reading what you sent me yet, but it makes me think about why i update my portfolio so often, because i feel like it doesn't reflect myself anymore. ​

06/13/2022 to 0385 bro i gotta make a portfolio presentation thursday for uber fall design engineer intern. i'm not sure actually if i need to make a presentation, i asked the recruiter but she didn't reply yet. i'm not confident at all about this, but it'll be a good experience i guess. i submitted my summer school assignment an hour ago. it was due yesterday so i'm one day late. that's not too bad. ​

05/10/2022 to 0385 so many portfolio case studies to prep for fall and new grad recruiting. there's no time! i have to take the course as well, but i'm taking less courses than last summer, so i'll have to figure it out. also after the work day sometimes your brain just doesn't work, you know what i mean?

i think my plan is just try to finish the stuff i need to do for sure. like internship and class is more important. so intern priority first, and for class i have the assignments in advance, so i'm just gonna try to do as much as i can, and not really try to get a good mark. and then if i feel secure in those two things, then i'll put some time into my portfolio. but easier said than done... also i need to get my G2. ​

05/05/2022 to 0345 i have to update portfolio. i'm gonna try to get a non UX internship. visual design, research, PM, design systems, design technologist, tbh literally anything i just want to try a different thing. i feel bored.

i realized this during paris as well, we were coming up with an idea for a project, and i was like, please i really don't want to design another app. ​

01/18/2022 to 0385, 5:11pm just finished my interview, i was so unprepared. it was supposed to be a 10 min portfolio presentation which i never did before, so i'm not sure how that went. i may have talked too fast or said "um" too many times, and idk why i thought it was supposed to end at 5 not 4:45, so i kept asking questions until 4:48. i think i just gave off like a chaotic energy, but maybe that's an accurate way to depict myself... i hope i can finish my portfolio deck before school starts. ​

01/05/2022 to 0345 my interview got rescheduled again. this is the third time they rescheduled, and every time they send the invite they're like "let me know if you have any questions!" so every time i always reply back like, what can i expect? do i need to prepare a portfolio presentation? and they never reply back. it's okay though, i don't really need to know. i need to update my portfolio presentation anyways, and if it's all behavioural i can wing it. ​

it's not like if you have a good interview, then you will get the job. if everyone interviews really well and has a good portfolio, but you are only hiring for two or three people, and some of them are a better fit for your team, like it could be domain experience, history with your product, or your design skillset... you want your design team to be well-balanced. ​

11/29/2021 to 0385 i feel like i took the internships for money and resume. did not do much for my portfolio. work was interesting though. i want to redo my entire portfolio, but i decided i'm gonna do it after i get a job, because i know it's gonna take me way too long. ​

11/24/2021 to 0345 i generally don't like take home before interview unless it's guaranteed interview. i think i can understand for intern or entry level, because portfolio might not be good enough. but mid level to senior, i have no idea why you need a take home. i think a take home is to show you know how to design, but if it's a senior role then they are looking for things outside of knowing how to design, like stakeholder management, prioritization. so idk what you would even find out from a take home. ​

11/20/2021 to 0345 i have a 6am meeting tomorrow for my school project, our group members are in korea, china, and holland. i still have a lot of the design take home assignment to do. one time by accident, i was presenting on figma at work and had a tab called "portfolio presentation"... never again. ​

11/19/2021 to 0345 it's nice to take a break from work before going into a new job. i had a month off of school before my first internship, but i spent that month on my portfolio. ​

11/12/2021 to 0345 an alphabet company looked at my portfolio today, but i don't know if they sponsor. also i realized that companies don't look at all the projects on my portfolio. i think i'm at the point where the interview portfolio presentation is more important... before i didn't have any recognized company names on my portfolio so i needed a good case study, otherwise people wouldn't know if i'm good or not. but if you have some company, then they trust you're good enough for an interview at least. idk, just my guess. ​

sorry, i tried. i'm just not what they were looking for, and that's okay. like i mentioned before, i'm happy with where i am right now. if something better comes along, i'll take it. things aren't always going to turn out the way i want and that's okay... i'm good with where i stand right now, i'm confident in my abilities as a designer and the skills i have. i know if i don't go somewhere else in summer 2022, i'll just stay. it could be better for my portfolio long-term. i'm just sad we won't work together. ​

10/20/2021 to 0345 i got an interview for C3 AI, it's in redwood city. i applied like a month ago, they seem so cool. yesterday i was checking and saw someone viewed my portfolio from greenhouse. i was like, who uses greenhouse? i think it was them. ​

09/13/2021 to 0345 i don't have experience lying to recruiters, but design is different from SWE. if you don't have big companies on your resume but your portfolio is good, then you can still get a phone screen. although big company experience can make your portfolio look better. ​

05/16/2021 to 0345 i was getting feedback that my case studies were too long, and the format i had it in was not scalable because they were very detailed. i can't share as much info with work i did at bigger companies, and i'm trying to keep them all somewhat consistent in length. so anyways, i need to redo my portfolio case studies before 2022 recruiting starts. but school starts on monday, so it would be better to finish before then. but also, it's kinda hard being international. ​
