Grade 6

09/2012 Class schedule.

image09/06/2012 When did your family first come to live in Canada? On June 26, 1996, my parents drove a rental car from Miami to Toronto after graduating.

What was school like when your grandparents were young? My grandparents did not go to school.

Can you tell me a story about some of the people in your family who died before you were born? A long time ago, a dog saved one of my ancestors from a fire.

Can you tell me a funny story that happened in your family in the past? When I was 2 years old visiting China, I was making unknown noises and holding an upside-down English newspaper. My aunt thought I was fluently reading a complicated newspaper.

09/19/2012 How do you feel when your family or someone close to you has to move? When people move away, I want them to come back soon and change their mind. I will still email my friends, but some do not check email often. Plus, email is not the same as talking face-to-face and doing things together. Eventually, we move apart and when we meet again, it isn't the same. People change and I find myself shy around them. I feel awkward, like I don't really know the person.

What are some of the reasons people have to move? Sometimes people don't have money, they go for jobs. Sometimes people get a divorce, or maybe a war started.

What kinds of things can people do to remain in touch? Email, telephone, Skype, FaceTime, planes (visiting).

What changes in your life when someone close to you has to move? You move on. However, you still think of them.

image11/2012 My favourite form of media is WEBSITES. Since I own a laptop, I have lots of access to websites. You can do almost anything on websites – play games, do research, listen to music, and watch videos. I will never get bored of websites because you can always find new websites, and new ones are always being made.

I always read books on websites, such as Wattpad. Plus, there are many useful websites I can use to do research. I don't play many games on websites, but I do occasionally. I also listen to music, usually when I check my email. I can use websites to do many different things.

image12/14/2012 What I know about space

  • Earth is a planet that humans live on
  • Pluto is no longer a real planet
  • The moon is not a planet
  • Planets have moons
  • No gravity in space
  • Astronauts go in space
  • Saturn has rings
  • People use rocketships to go to outer space I don't know much.

What I want to know

  • Why are so many chocolate bars named after things in space? (Mars, Milky Way)
  • And why did the creator of Mars bars choose "Mars" as a name? Because it rhymed with "bars" or because it was their favourite planet?
  • Are black holes visible, or do they blend in with the... I don't know... background?
  • When I see pictures of planets, they all have distinct colours. Are those the real colours of planets?
  • Is dried food the only thing astronauts eat in space?
  • Is naming your child after a planet creative or disrespectful?
  • Do electronic gadgets work in outer space?
  • What happens if you take off your space suit in space?
  • Do astronauts get air in space? Do astronauts suffocate?
  • What happens if an asteroid hits Earth?
  • Are there rainbows in outer space? Rainbow equivalents?
  • Since spaceships go to space up from the sky, can you go below sea level to space?

image03/2013 What are 3 things important to you that money cannot buy? This is a pretty difficult question for me, because a lot of things you can't buy with money aren't things you can see plainly with your eyes. They're more abstract, and you can't tell if you have them.

Things money can't buy can be lost, and I frequently question, "Is it there anymore? Is it gone? Do I need to work hard to regain it?" On the other hand, things bought with money can't last as long as a concept, an idea, a relationship. Objects decay and won't stay as long.

Although, the thing is with these, I don't always know if I've really and truly got it. There is always something to question about it. And while sometimes I feel I'll have it forever, other times I'm wary.

image06/2013 I plan to go to camp this summer. Some are fun. But most are really boring. I would like to just read and do stuff on my laptop at home.

06/19/2013 Last year of Mrs. 0348 teaching. Our class bought her an iPad mini with almost no adult help.
